Through root canal therapy, we can remove the diseased pulp tissue (tissue residing below the tooth that consists primarily of blood cells and nerve endings), seal the affected area to prevent bacterial encroachment, and help prevent tooth loss. This is accomplished by drilling a small access hole through the affected tooth, removing the pulp, and sealing the tooth with filling material (and a dental crown, if necessary).
